Sometimes I wonder just how
American I am. I
mean, look at me - I'd rather drink tea than howl like a baboon and
invade sandy countries. I don't think that terrorism is a threat that
can be solved through military action and once I even swore in a
church. So, call me unpatriotic and tell me to move to France (god
forbid), and any other bullshit you like, because I've heard it all.
Quite frankly, people on every part of the political continuum, liberal
and conservative alike, need to get their shit together. For example: I
see and hear countless politicians and pundits turning political issues
into personal struggles between the two people having a debate. Again,
liberal and conservative. Never mind that we have a fucking country to
run, they want to prove that they're right and you're wrong. I'm sure
by now you can guess a few of the things that I agree with liberals on,
so let me tell you something the conservatives have got right:
terrorism is a threat, and a big one. There are people out there who
are misguided enough to decide one day that they are going to take
their lives and those of others in a public place. This is an age in
which you can die for no reason, without ever knowing it. So
Republicans: I won't say whether we should be in Iraq or not, but I
don't think anyone can deny that it is not going well, and it is not
stopping terrorism. Democrats: instead of telling Republicans how wrong
they are, come up with helpful ideas and present them politely. Don't
put any more tension on a relationship thats already strained to the
breaking point. As quintessentially american as it would be, the
government is not a fucking superbowl, and believe it or not no matter
who wins we're still supposed to
work together. Even if the
other party isn't cooperating. At least you can give yourself the
satisfaction doing your job properly, even if the other guy isn't. I
guess what I'm trying to say is that no matter who's right and who's
wrong, none of it matters unless people stop arguing about shit at some
point and work together for the common good.
